Plans, Hopes, & Dreams
Our concerns are many. Working both locally and abroad the path of our river is determined
by the terrain presented to us as we move forward. Though our course may veer right or left,
the destination remains the same. We will GO AND DO Likewise.

Plans
We are moving rapidly towards the date of our next trip to the village. We will have a group of 6 from the states and will picking up two friends in Nairobi to visit the village with us. This trip promises to have a brand new flavor. The traveler focus will be two fold. One focus will be to construct a library for the village school. Our hope is that this building will provide more than a place to house the books we might provide, it will become a place for the older students to mentor and encourage the younger students to improve their grades so they too may proceed past primary school with their education.
The second focus will be for the women in our group to be able to encourage the girls and young women to see past what was possible before and embrace education as the potential it is. The women going with us will have the opportunity to address these younger women of the village and share with them what an education offers. This is important also for the adult members of the village as they struggle with their own fears of change. We are very excited about the progress which the village has made and their willingness to embrace the opportunity Gad Kenya brings.
Hopes

The education of the young generation of the village continues to be our major purpose and effort. Look for our Student scholarship on this web site. There you will find the pictures, some personal information and education levels of students who are in our program and who need your help to continue their education. You can now provide personal sponsorship for education for the young of Rionchogu. After you look through the pages you can click the link and the student name. There you will be given the opportunity provide this life changing opportunity of education. You may make one donation for the year or equal monthly donations, which ever method you prefer. You will receive the student picture, a letter from the student and a means to contact this student as the year goes on. This is very important as we go forward. Become personally involved with a young man or woman who is reaching to change a way of life.

Dreams
In the village they too are preparing for the Holiday season. A large number of children without families will be receiving simple gifts due to the hard work of the leadership and our Solar light continues to be a bright shining beacon of hope for the students, their families and the village area around them. We continue to seek for the resource to provide these inexpensive lights to the very poor but also to secure a number of them to provide economic opportunity for the village community.
Solar light addresses each of the areas of our purpose:
Health, the current fuel is kerosene or paraffin the smoke from this is very caustic and a very real health risk for the family. Solar is the most desirable replacement as there is no health hazard with this effective energy source. Plus the light from these lights is of a standard that the student can see to read, this was not the case for the previous kerosene gave very poor light.
Education, the simple fact is that today, without solar lights the day ends as the sun goes down and now with solar light the student can continue their study and the result, better grades and better chance to continue their education.
Economy, solar helps the village economy in two ways. First the light or the energy to provide the light is free. Solar recharging of the battery is natural and easy. A day in the sun provides 5 hours of light at night. The cost of kerosene can be as high as 25% of the family budget for these very poor families of the village. Secondly there is economic opportunity as the lights are made available for the village to sell these lights at a profit which is a huge step to their self sustainability.
There is great hope attached to the use of personal solar lights in the village.
