At 17 yrs Andrew is entering his fourth year of Secondary, He has very good scores however coming from a family of 9 children he faces losing out to continue his education and graduate. His scores are high and he ranks 66 out of 370 from a better School

Rosebellah S - Candidate



Rosebellah will be 16 in 2012. She is the third child in a family of nine, having 4 brothers, 2 sisters with both her parents living. Her favorite subjects are Kiswahili, agriculture, geography and Christian Education. Her goal is to become a land surveyor. Her mother tends the farm to provide food and sell sometimes at market. She is attending her Form II studies with support from GAD Kenya as the family did not have all the funds necessary for her to continue her education.

Winnie will be 15 in 2012. She is in her second year (Form II) and hopes to be an educator and lecture at University. She is one of 7 siblings in her family both her parents are peasant farmers. Winnie loves reading and singing and is very grateful for the support of GAD Kenya. Winnie is a new Form II student seeking help for continued Secondary education due to family poverty.

Age 17 youngest of 3 brothers and three sisters. Father and mother are both peasant farmers. James is the young man who was involved in tutoring another in Algebra, however his scores in some areas brought his total down, so; at the end of his Form IV year he found his grades were not high enough to acheive further college or University education. He has decided to return to Secondary and prepare to take the exam again this is a path which is encouraged.

Samuel O - Candidate



Samuel comes from a family of 8. His parents are peasant farmers and unable to provide school fee support. Samuel’s first year in secondary was very successful, his favorite subjects are in the sciences and math and he hopes to become an engineer. Samuel spends time in exercise as he wants to be a fit a possible. Samuel placed number 1 out of 77 students in his Form I year. With school support Samuel will do excellent on his exams. Samuel is newly added to the program.

Calvin N - Candidate



Calvin is 15 yrs old and is in his first year of Secondary. He is one of six children whose mother is the sole provider and works her small farm to feed the children. He has a good school record as hopes to be associated with aircraft. His leisure time is used reading and playing soccer or volleyball. Calvin is a new student comng from STD 8 seeking help for his first year in Secondary.

Age 13,Rebecca is new to the program, her Std 8 scores have not arrived yet. She is one of 8 children living with their widowed mother. She is very hopeful of finding a sponsor so she might continue her education.

17 yr old Lilian has had a tough few years, she has been sick for a few years and was diagnosed in 2009 with a heart disease. Susequently she missed another entire year of school due to her health issues. While medications have returned her to a level of health that allows her to attend school still her family of peasant farmers do not have the funds. She promises to work very hard.

Johnston B. - Candidate



Age 18, 2 brother 2 sisters, both parents are peasant farmers. He likes music and wants to learn to play the piano. Johnston has been in the program for a few years. At the end of his Form IV year he found his grades were not high enough to acheive further college or University education. As Caleb above, and a few others, Johnston has decided to return to Secondary and prepare to take the exam again this is a path which is encouraged. Name useage is sometimes fluid in the rural culture, the name on the donation page is the same young man.

Age 15 Marther is new to the program. She is a second year Student who will not be able to finish school without assistance. This is the most at risk group as she is of age to marry if her family wants but school will not only educate her but support her to mature with a different future in mind. Faith is a vibrant 14 yr old young woman who is determined and focused. She does some extra exercise as body building to keep fit and free from disease. The daughter of a single mother she has two brothers and five sisters. She is in the first year of secondary and has not received her test marks for 2011 yet. Her hopes for the future lie in the health field and this depends on her continued education and hard work. Faith promises to do the hard work if given the chance.

Age 15 Macloud is a total orphan whose extended family was unable to care for him.
Macloud has been a participant in GAD Kenya projects and is featured on one of our videos.

17 yr old David is a twin to Emmanuel. They lost their father by the criminal act of others, he was murdered. Since then their mother has tried to keep the family fed and the boys in school. Their education was interrupted by the tragedy until GAD Kenya stepped in. Kevin Matara, another of our students, introduced them and they were approved for sponsorship because of their previous high scores. David is determined to use this opportunity to aide his local area to improve their daily lives and encourage children to do well in school.

Olive was not in program last year and had to leave school because of lack of fees. Leisure time helps parents and reads. Due to historic cultural issues girls have many names. Olive was called Jackline in the past but has preferred the name Olive and so you will find her donation page says Jackline, this is the same girl.

Kevin N. - Candidate



Age 13 Kevin Nyambane is very aware of the work of GAD Kenya in the village. He speaks of the better economy due to the cow project and the improved health due to gardening and also the improvement in English among the children. His goal is to become a professional in the medical area and be able to further assist the village with health and education assistance. Kevin expects to score above 440 points on his yr end test which is very high.
