Students Requesting Vocational Training Support

These students represent two groups as defined by the GAD Kenya Board during family interviews and individual discussions with each student.  One group consists of students who have been identified as best suited for vocational training even before completion of the basic Secondary Education process.  The other group has been successful in completing their Secondary education.  Each has demonstrated a focus and determination to become a participant in the self sustaining efforts for the village of Rionchogu and the surrounding area.  The next step for them is employment as they have determined, with the assistance of GAD Kenya leadership, that vocational training represents the best next step.  All the young men and women shown here come from financial situations where the families are unable to provide the entire course fees for the training they need.  Families, parents and young adults are supportive of the cultural and social  realignments necessary for a self sustaining family and community.

Kevin M. - Candidate

19 yr old Kevin has emerged as a leader among the participants of educational support in Rionchogu. While he is older he has also shown an understanding of the importance of foundational education. When he first took his Form IV exam Kevin did poorly. So in keeping with his dedication he decided to go back two years and redo his Secondary classes so he might receive better scores. This leadership effort has not only earner Kevin our respect but also the potential to go further in his education than he had even hoped.
