Our concerns are many. Working both locally and abroad the path of our river is determined
by the terrain presented to us as we move forward. Though our course may veer right or left,
the destination remains the same. We will GO AND DO Likewise.

GADL uses the symbol of a tree to illustrate the mechanics of our organization. The leaves & boughs/branches are akin to the programs that grow out to reach far and produce fruit. The trunk which also continues to grow outward is that which centers our purpose and unites the components of the tree together, and that is GADL. The roots are what allows the tree to nourish itself with food and water so the tree can flourish. We, those who seek a purpose greater than ourselves alone, liken our roots to our desire to do what is right and good.

The volunteers of GADL and GAD Kenya, as well as the people they set out to lift up, are the fertile soil from which this nourishment comes from. As the fruit matures it will seed and return to the soil. From there new trees will rise up and grow strong, until there is a thriving forest of right and good, strength and stability, hope and great joy.

As a group GADL respects the differences in each volunteer and those we attend to. Though most of our members have a strong belief in God we are not of one religion nor do we like to associate the term religion or religious with our mission. Because it's not about us. It's about doing what is called to us by God and the greater power that faith (setting out to Go And Do) and action (Going And Doing) will move mountains, leaving a place from which a mighty forest can rise.

Bud Potter - President, CEO, & Co-Founder

God's greatest miracles are accomplished through our simple obedience.

"We are given so much and of all we are given life is the most amazing. It is the way and the means by which we bless others. What a waste to live your life and seek to bless yourself. It is when we allow for the created inner us to be the blessing to others that we find out what truly blessed is for us."

Eaar Oden - Board Member

Eaar Oden is responsible for the majority of breath-taking photos and video footage from Kenya.

"I live in Fountain Valley, California but my second home, in spirit, is Rionchogu, Kenya. It was there that my eyes were opened and my heart was changed, towards the rest of the world around me. I am a follower of Jesus Christ and serve Him at Fountain Valley United Methodist Church. It is my faith that relentlessly drives me to want to do more in this world to love and serve others. I use my careers in photography and video production to share that ongoing journey. Perhaps you will join me?"

Ruth - GADL Lead Bookkeeper

Why I volunteer:

I can't think of a better way to thank God for my blessings than to help His needy people.

Kim Wampler -

I have always had a heart for Africa and in recent years a heart to be in service to God.  I have spent more than enough time just wondering where God wants me to serve.  When the opportunity to join the board of GADL came along, I hesitated, wanting a clear response from God that this was where He wanted me.  The answer became clear listening to the song by Matthew West... "I don't wanna go through the motions, I don't wanna spend one more day, without your all-consuming passion inside of me...I don't wanna spend my whole life asking, what if I had given everything, instead of going through the motions?"

Anastasia Hansel - Volunteer of the Highest Order

GAD Kenya is a focus of Anastasia due to her vision for women globally. Anastasia is an active participant and a driving force within the Whitney Women on Wheels (WWW) fundraising event at the annual Mt. Whitney Classic. Women of the Congo, as elsewhere, often become victims in war and civil unrest. Anastasia and her team champion the ravaged and pilfered women of this war torn area during the yearly cycle trek.

Anastasia is also deeply involved with our annual Crittenton Holiday Event.

Tim Hansel - Volunteer of the Highest Order

For all that has been - Thanks
To all that shall be - Yes

Since graduating from Stanford University Tim Hansel has been coach, educator, entrepreneur, author, event speaker, lecturer and possibly most importantly, encourager to so very many who have come face to face with life hardships and difficulties.

Tim was founder of Summit Expedition, a wilderness experience designed to uplift and encourage participants to cherish life and identity. Today Tim is President of Ignite Inc. An organization whose purpose is to kindle and fuel the desire for personal excellence.

Tim authored numerous books among them; Holy Sweat, You Gotta Keep Dancin, When I Relax I Feel Guilty, What Kids Need Most in a Dad, Eating Your Problems for Breakfast and Through the Wilderness of Loneliness.

Tim is a constant source of encouragement and support for the leadership of Go and Do Likewise. His insight into life’s purpose and the dynamic of the gift of Joy continue to be foundations of our efforts and purpose.

In 2003 Tim and Bud Potter, co-founder of Go and Do Likewise, began a friendship which each says is as if they have known the other for all their lives. Close personal friends, fellow sojourners on life’s path, these two men have found a common delight in the presence and purpose of Go and Do Likewise.

Chanel - Volunteer of the Highest Order

Chanel has implemented and manages our social networking.

One of my favorite quotes reads, "We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us." While that quote expresses how I've felt most of my life, it's only recently that I've come to truly embrace what it really means. I've always had great compassion for others and constantly sought to be of service to others, but lack of faith in the God in me, kept my actions minimum, and kept me from fulfilling my purpose. So once again,  through a series of fortunate events, I'm presented with this ultimate opportunity to get involved in projects that will challenge me and allow me to be truly helpful to others. From the initial emails with Bud Potter, to our first meeting I knew this is what I'm supposed to do. The friendships that I'm developing in Rionchogu, and watching how my courage to get involved is encouraging my family to ask questions, affirms it even more.

By going and doing likewise,  I will make manifest the glory of God!

Debbie Bise - Volunteer of the Highest Order

Paper Coordinator - This year it is Debbie's job to organize and file all the necessary paperwork needed to send people to Kenya. She will also be in charge of reserving the hotels for the volunteers to stay in as they travel to their final destination.

"I am greatly honored to have been asked by Bud to help him with this project, but also completely overwhelmed by the magnitude of the project. I do believe that God is the one truly in charge of this project and I believe that all that needs to be done, will get done in the way that is needed. With that said, I will Trust in the Lord with all of my heart and lean not on my own understanding. Proverbs 3:5"

Sherry Lawler Sparks - Volunteer of the Highest Order

Sherry's contribution to GADL relies on her God given talents, that up until recently seemed scattered and random. Joining the team of GADL has allowed her to use these talents to come together to serve GADL, humanity, and God.

Ms. Sparks is the designer and manager of GADL's web presence. She works in many capacities as content editor, graphic artist, web designer, SEO management, marketing, branding, and soon will be editing the amazing footage and photos shot by Eaar Oden for the new GAD Kenya videos that will be displayed on our website on the media page as well as our own youtube® channel, theGADLchannel in the near future.

Sherry's friendship with Julie Barilone (our pioneer Microsite member) and the designing of Julie's microsite has brought her to the wide open and welcoming doorstep of GADL.

PREPARING TO GO AND DO KENYA

Julie Barilone

Paving the way to a unique facet of our GAD Kenya project, Ms. Barilone desiring to be a participant but not of the financial means to do so, took it upon herself to raise the funds needed to travel to Kenya. Instigating the design of her own personal website to raise funds, has inspired GADL to encourage and support a microsite network that will work hand-in-hand to enable those who also want to Go And Do Kenya but do not have the financial backing to do so on their own. Ms. Barilone has generously donated her website design as a template for future microsite volunteers wishing to raise funds to Go And Do Kenya.

Julie's promise is to donate 100% of herself and all possible resources at her disposal to secure further educational materials to the committed people of Rionchogu. GADL's Kenya Library Project promises to further the development of this region by providing reading materials, a solar lighting system for the library, as well as the facility in which to house the reading materials.
